Services on the Harbour line were affected on Wednesday during peak hours in the evening, leaving thousands of commuters stranded on the platforms.
According to the Central Railway, the services were affected as the overhead electricity (OHE) wires were not holding power on both - up and down - lines between Thane and Airoli. “Restoration of traffic was our first priority. The tower wagon reached the site and services were resumed,” a CR spokesperson said.

According to commuters, the services were affected at 7 pm and the trains started moving only around 9 pm.
Chaitraly Shetty, a resident of Panvel who works with the HR department of a private firm in Thane, said, “I usually reach Thane station at 7 pm. But today there was a huge crowd. I waited till 8 pm and later took the road transport to reach home.” Rafiq Shaikh, resident of Taloja who travels from Thane to Belapur, said, “I reach home by iftar. But, today due to the disruption in train services, my plans for the evening went for a toss.” Shaikh too travelled by road to reach home.
