A 19-year-old student from Vasai committed suicide after he was allegedly harassed by his classmates. The deceased Jeet Ashar's father, Darshan Aashar, alleged his son was being mentally harassed for the past few months and avoided going to college. He said his son had slipped into depression.
Jeet was part of a WhatsApp group named 'Namune'. However, in August, his friends had removed him from the group and despite him pleading, they refused to add him back. Darshan said, "After reading the group chat, it appeared they were provoking him to commit suicide and also told him about various ways to do it."

He said that they would add his son to the group when they needed help and would remove him from it once done. Jeet was a resident of Vasai (East) and was studying BMM at a Santacruz college. He was also simultaneously learning animation for which projects, his friends from the group asked for help.
Darshan said he has submitted the WhatsApp chats to the local police and asked them to enquire and take necessary action against the accused. Senior inspector, D Patil, Tulinj police station, said, "It is a suicide case and we have registered an accidental death report. We have not received any complaint yet and will enquire further."
