There seems to be good news boosting the medical facilities in the country. MAB initiated the venture with three machines in financial year 2016-17 dedicated to the medical evacuations and organ transfers. The ambulances would be stationed at Nagpur/ Aurangabad, Bhubaneshwar and Mysore/ Belgaum. It plans to expand the services to ten aircrafts by 2022 and incorporate 15 full-fledged fleets by 2026.
Mumbai will be the headquarters of the operations for the company. The company that will begin with three fixed-wing fleets, will fly 30 patients per week. “There will be an air ambulance present in every 500 kilometer of the country. These services will have a Maintenance, repairs and Operations (MRO) office in Maharashtra.
“The cost of this ambulance will be roughly Rs. 60, 000 per hour which will make it around Rs.2.5 lakh per route,” said Mandar Bharde, Managing Director, MAB Aviation. He further added, “There will be a dedicated call in the Air Traffic control which will enable the ATCs to give a priority landing at the airports.” Bharde also said that the company was in talking terms with DGCA in order to have a dedicated call system for the air ambulances thus clearing even the minutest obstacles.
The idea of air ambulance originated from the criticalness of organ failure or fatal health disorders, transportation of vital organs or transporting critical patients to the place they are urgently needed. MAB along with Radius Circle signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
It should be noted that when an organ is taken out of a body it needs to be fixed in the other within a maximum period of 6.5 hours. This first dedicated air ambulance services will enable smooth functioning in transporting the organs whenever required and thus help saving life.
