Mumbaikars have big plans for u00a009/09/09 from grand birthday celebrations to delivering babies

For those who swear by numerology, today 09/09/09 is a date with history.

Jayesh Kesaria, an Andheri-based hotelier who believes in numerology, could not be happier that his birthday falls on this "auspicious" day.

"I will cut my cake at 9 hours, 9 minutes and 9 seconds today in my hotel. I will celebrate the day with family and friends after paying a visit to Siddhivinayak Temple," he said.

Bringing in the new

Many would-be parents had their eyes set on this day for months. And city gynaecologists are going to have a busy day.

"I will be conducting two inductions and one Caesarean operations today," said Dr Anita Soni from Hiranandani Hospital, Powai. Dr Rekha Davar from J J Hospital has two Caesarean operations scheduled for today.

Wrong number?

Numerologists and astrologers have a mixed opinion on this rare date. "Traditionally number 9 is considered lucky, but it also depends on the star sign of the person.

People who are born on the ninth are usually hotheaded, impulsive, accident prone, stubborn and inflexible.

The number is also symbolic to planet Mars, which is fiery and is known as the planet of war," said R D Pala a celebrity astrologer.

Numerologist Sanjay B Jumaani has a more sinister take on it. "999 when turned upside down represents 666, which is the number of Satan," he said.

The next big date

R Patheja, principal of Khalsa College, Matunga, is looking forward to 12-12-12. On December 12, 2012 Patheja will be celebrating her 60 birthday.

"09-09-09 is auspicious as it's a rare date. So, will 12-12-12 be. I will u00a0retire from my principal's post on this day."

"Don't know whether that day will be lucky for anyone, but it will be unforgettable for me. I will call it quits at 12 pm, 12 mins, 12 secs," she added.

Patheja joined Khalsa in 1973 as a professor of chemistry department.
