Journalists will assemble at the Marathi Patrakar Sangh to protest government inaction over their demands

Around a hundred journalists from 16 news organisations across the state will begin an indefinite hunger strike at the Marathi Patrakar Sangh today to protest government inaction regarding their demands of a CBI inquiry into the murder of MiD DAY reporter J Dey and the passage of an ordinance on categorising attacks on journalists as cognisable and non-bailable offences.

Media personnel from across the spectrum had marched from the Sangh office near CST to Mantralaya on Monday with a charter of demands following Dey's murder, but were disappointed at the CM being non-committal on these issues.

They had then issued a 48-hour ultimatum for going on a chain hunger strike, which expired last night.

Kiran Naik, convenor of the Committee Against Attacks on Journalists, said, "Today, representatives from various news organisations will sit on a fast between 9 am and 5 pm.
