Ravindra Singh is among the millions of Indians who consider cricket as a religion. But what separates him from the rest is that he has taken his faith to another level. With the T20 World Cup starting today, Singh tried to appease the Gods to ensure that Dhoni & Co bring back the coveted trophy.u00a0u00a0

On Tuesday night, Singh, an Andheri-based businessman, held a havan in Chandivli to seek heavenly blessings for the Indian cricket team, which will play its first game against Bangladesh on Saturday at Trent Bridge.

During the seven-hour ritual, a puja was performed on the portraits of skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, vice-captain Virendra Sehwag and spinner Harbhajan Singh and mantras were also recited.

A small price

Though Singh spent a whopping Rs 3 lakh on the havan, he feels it's a small price to pay if it brings luck to our team.

"Many people perform havans and pray for the success of the Indian team. This is because cricket is more than a sport and there are sentiments attached to the game," said Singh.

Sing(h)ing along

But there's more to Singh than just his spiritual side. The entrepreneur, who also owns a music company, will release a music album titled Mahi India to cheer the Men in Blue. It will not only comprise of mantras from the havan, but also a song composed and sung by Singh, Hum jeet ke layein the, hum jeet ke layenge. "The album will lift the spirit of the team. The entire country wants our team to become T20 World Cup champions," said Singh.
