A first look at director James Cameron's sci-fi romantic movie, Avatar was held for a select few on Friday. The movie is Cameron's first release in 12 years after the hugely successful Titanic. Why the delay? Cameron did not have the necessary technology then to produce Avatar, so he spent these years co-developing a technology called Fusion 3-D camera.u00a0

Avatar, set in the 22nd century is a story of a paralysed former Marine, Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) who travels to a planet called Pandora to conduct a human encroachment. He transforms himself into the native Na'vi a sentient humanoid race, who are 10 ft tall, have blue sparkling skin and tails. Through the course of this mission, he falls in love with a beautiful Na'vi named Neytiri, the character of whom is said to be entirely computer generated. He is now torn between his love and the mission at hand. The movie also stars Sigourney Weaver.

The story might not be new but as Vijay Singh, CEO, Fox Star Studios India says, "The film is an event by itself.
Fans have been wanting to know more about it." He does not agree that the technological advancement of the movie will overshadow the story, stating that it's high on emotion as well. Some of Worthington's features are still retained after he turns into a Na'vi.

Avatar releases worldwide on December 18 and Singh states it will be the biggest Hollywood release in India.

The film will be released in 2D, 3D and IMAX and will also be dubbed in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. We suggest you watch it in 3D, it's a whole another experience.

Filmmakers who came to watch the screening
Hoping to take a leaf out of Cameron's sci-fi book were directors and producers who dropped in to watch the first look of Avatar. Some of the famous faces included Govind Nihalani who was well in his seat before the promo could begin. Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Goldie Behl, Sriram Raghavan, Ramesh and Rohan Sippy, Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt, Mohit Suri, and Sanjay Gupta were also present at one of the two venues where the screening was held.
