Forensic reports have now established that Thane's Warekar family had indeed been drugged before their only son, Hasnain, slit their throats and then hanged himself on February 27. 14 family members were butchered in their sleep that night, and only one person lived to tell the tale — the youngest daughter, Sobiya Bharmal.

A senior official investigating the case said that when she gave her statement, it became clear that Hasnain had killed everyone with a sharp knife, but they were still trying to figure how he had done it. They suspected the only way he could have overpowered so many people was by drugging them.

Five forensic reports have come back so far, and all show traces of sedative. Thane Joint Commissioner of Police Ashutosh Dumbre confirmed that they received the reports on Friday evening. "We have received the reports of five people, including Hasnain's mother and father and his wife and one of his daughters," added Dumbre.

In the room, the cops found bottles of aerated drinks, mango juice and flavoured milk. The forensic laboratory is said to have found traces of the sedative clonazepam in samples of the aerated drink, but the police are yet to confirm this.

mid-day had reported the day after the murder that the only reason Sobiya survived the massacre was because she had a cold and so hadn't had any of the cold drinks that night. As a result, she was the only one awake when Hasnain went on the killing rampage (Read more).
