Dying declaration of woman with 90 per cent burns helps police nab the four who gang raped her. Excerpts from the statement
Nadiya Raju Ramswami Devendra (25) was gang raped and set ablaze at her Antop Hill home at 6.30 pm on Monday.
At 11.30 pm, she died of 90 per cent burns, but not before she gave a statement to the Antop Hill police at Sion Hospital that led to the arrest of the four men.
The four accused have been sent to police custody till September 25. This is Nadiya's statement to the police. Two hours later, she passed away in agony.
"I got married in 2005 to Raju Ramswami who works at Chembur. Nitya (one of the accused) wanted to marry me and had approached my family in 2004.
But even after my marriage, Nitya, his brother Rajesh and his friends Kumar and Shankar would regularly visit my house after my husband left for his job.

Theyu00a0 would harass me to open the door by banging on it continuously. And I had no option, but to give in. Since my husband did not know about Nitya, I did not tell him anything about their visits.
Nitya used to tell me to meet him, but I refused to give in to his threats that he would tell my husband.
On September 21, Nitya asked me to meet him at around 11 am at Mahim, but I did not go. At 6.30 pm, all the four came to my house and since my door was open, came inside.
They asked me to come with them and when I refused, they tried to drag me out of the house. They had also brought a can of kerosene with them. I refused to go out.
It was then that Nitya and his friends caught my hands and legs. I started shouting and told them, 'Aisa mat karo, main police complaint karoongi.' They refused to listen to me. Nitya first raped me and then Kumar, Rajesh and Shankar.
When they were about to leave, Nitya poured kerosene on me and while the three caught me, Nitya set me ablaze and then all the four ran away. I began shouting in pain and my relatives and neighbours rushed me to Sion Hospital."
The Rinku Patil Case
March 31,1990: Rinku Patil leaves for SES school, Ulhasnagar for her geometry exams. Haresh Patel and his friends barge in, wielding a knife.
He catches hold of Rinku and threatens everybody out of the classroom. Haresh bolts the door from inside and douses her with petrol and sets her on fire even as her sister and other students scream for help outside the room.
Unfortunately, there was nobody to hear her screams as everybody including the teachers, principal and the policemen on duty at the examination centreu00a0 had fled.
Haresh's body was found on the railway tracks the next day, an apparent suicide. Haresh had been harassing her to marry him, but she kept rejecting his advances.
