AFTER the recent sting operation carried out by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) where they exposed the security lapse at the Mumbai University by sneaking out examination papers, the security has been tightened at its Kalina premises.

University's security guards are not only being trained to handle terror attacks, but even tackle attacks from organisations like MNS, NSUI or any other student's wing.

Around 65 security personnel attended the training session on Saturday at university's Fort campus which was organised by the Management Council Members and conducted by Mumbai police's security and protection branch officers. The remaining personnel will get their training at the Kalina campus on 28 February.

University guards were not only shown different types of bombs, but were also trained how to spot a suspicious person.

"Our guards were not following a security pattern. Now they have been asked to follow one. They have been trained not only to spot suspicious people, but how to handle political morchas which happens every now and then. Earlier, no one was stopped from entering the University office, but now they will be allowing only two or four people to avoid any ruckus," University's assistant security officer Madhav Pandey said.

Pandey has also submitted a proposal for having at least two armed guards at both the campus.

The security committee has recommended to hire 91 more guards which has been forwarded to the management council and the senate meeting for sanction.

Security guards are given self-defense training at least twice a year.
"Its easy to guard MU Fort building, but quite difficult to handle Kalina campus as it's 368 acres huge land without boundary walls. Our guards protect it without any arms," Pandey said.

New rules for guards
>Only four people to be allowed to enter the Fort office
>No one goes for break with a reliever
>No one to be allowed with proper ID
>Visitor registrar be maintained for those without proper ID.
>Keep a watch on suspicious person
