"If you are gay, contact Harish Iyer"u00a0Graffiti on a college wall.

Harish Iyer now a more confident 30-year-old, says homophobia as much as sexual abuse scarred him for life. His uncle first abused him when Harish was just seven.

For 11 more years, the horror went on with sickening regularity, till at 18, Harish finally told his parents.

"My parents approached the police and the abuse ended.

By then I was in college and somehow my classmates seemed to sense, before I did that I was homosexual.

There was humiliation and there was graffiti on the college wall.

It was then, after the constant taunts, that I realised I was, in fact, attracted to men."

It was this realisation that finally gave him the confidence to stand up against the brutality.

"Only when I refused to be browbeaten, that my classmates treated me with respect," said Harish.
