Considering the growing number of animal rescuers in the city and on its outskirts, the Thane Society for Prevention to Cruelty to Animals (TSPCA) has collaborated with Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare (RAWW) to organise an awareness programme.

The main objective behind organising this workshop on April 19, which will witness participation from officials from Forest Department (FD) and the existing animal rescue groups, is to inform animal lovers about the ethics and protocol they must adhere to while and after rescuing a wild animal.

The existing protocol is in adherence with the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, which promotes transparent and legal rescue of wildlife. As per the protocol, anybody who rescues a wild animal is supposed to intimate the FD immediately and follow the instructions given by its officials.

“There are many who don’t know rules and regulations that are supposed to be followed while working around wild animals,” said Pawan Sharma, RAWW founder.

Officialspeak
Chief Conservator of Forests and Field Director (Thane) K P Singh said, “Stringent rules will be implemented in May pertaining to rescue of wild animals. Meanwhile, we will be collaborating with TSPCA and RAWW to spread awareness among animal lovers.”
