Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray visited Sunrise Hospital in Bhandup on Friday and assured a thorough investigation into the deadly fire incident.

"It is a very unfortunate incident and an investigation will be done into the same and action will be taken against those responsible," he told reporters. He added that it was unfortunate that these fire incidents were happening despite his instructions in the past to conduct a fire and structural audit of all hospitals and COVID centres.

BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis, who also visited the spot, asked the government how many more deaths does it need to ensure safety measures at all medical facilities.

"We demand strict action against everyone responsible for not carrying out the safety audit. The MVA government must own it up and take responsibility now."

Mumbai Guardian Minister Aslam Shaikh admitted that there were lapses at the hospital. BJP leader Kirit Somaiya said he plans to file a complaint of criminal negligence against the BMC.
