Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has exuded confidence to end Maoist extremism in Maharashtra’s affected areas where developmental activities have been seeing success in the past one year.

Speaking at a conclave held by the Home Ministry in New Delhi on Friday, he said urban Maoism was on the rise through the Internet and social media, and an effective mechanism was needed to tackle it.

He also requested the Home Ministry to probe the source of funding of the Maoist activities through the joint effort of the Central enforcement agencies and financial intelligence department.

He stressed on the need of laying a railway network in the Maoism affected areas such as Gadchiroli in Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Telangana to help expedite development. He presented the realisation of private and public investment in Gadchiroli.

He told the gathering about the Eklavya School initiative, and demanded a night landing facility for a helicopter that had been put in service to evacuate injured security personnel.

Shinde listed the achievement of the state in apprehending Maoist activists and trying them. He said 49 per cent of the active cadre in Maharashtra came from neighbouring Chhattisgarh.

He said his dream was to make the people in Gadchiroli feel like the Kashmiris who have heaved a sigh of relief.
