The number of COVID-19 cases in the city appears to be steady but the increasing number of deaths has been worrying the authorities. On Thursday, the city reported 75 deaths, the maximum so far on a single day in the second wave. Maharashtra registered 568 deaths for the second consecutive day. 

Mumbai reported 7,410 cases after conducting 46,874 tests with an approximate Test Positivity Rate (TPR) of 16 per cent. In the first week of April, the number of average daily positive patients was around 10,000. There are 83,953 active patients in the city.


Though the number of cases is now lowering, the growing number of deaths is a cause of concern. Of 75 deaths reported on Thursday, 41 had comorbidities. Of the 75 deaths,  46  were above the age of 60 years, 23 were between 40 years and 60 years of age and six deaths were below 40 years of age.

The recovery rate of the city is 84 per cent and fatality rate is 2.08 per cent. The doubling rate is 50 days. 

The recovery rate of the state is 81 per cent. The fatality rate is 1.53 per cent.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) reported 17,195 cases, including the ones in Mumbai. Other cities like Thane recorded 1,534 cases, Navi Mumbai recorded 981 and Kalyan-Dombivli 1,743. The MMR, excluding Mumbai, witnessed 52 deaths out of which 29 were reported in Raigad.

The state recorded the highest number of cases with 67,013 new cases on Thursday. Pune circle reported 13,219, Nashik circle with 10,648 and Nagpur reported 12,508 cases. Latur reported 4,239 cases on a single day, and the number of deaths in the area was 102. Nagpur reported 90 deaths, while Nashik reported 86, and Pune reported 42 deaths. A total of 62,298 patients were discharged across Maharashtra, and the number of active cases increased to 7 lakh. The state had around 30,000 active cases in the first week of February.
