The Kherwadi police have registered an FIR against a drone operator for allegedly flying a drone near Matoshree — the official residence of the Thackeray family — in the Kalanagar area of Bandra East.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 6.30 pm on Wednesday evening. The drone was being operated from the BKC Ten building, which the local residents living near Matoshree spotted and alerted the police.

Police said the operator, identified as Harsh Mohan Kariya, was using the drone for advertisement purposes for a newly constructed tower. However, no permission had been obtained from the police to operate the drone.

The use of drones without any official permission is highly restricted in Mumbai due to security reasons. Anyone intending to operate a drone must obtain prior permission from the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) for a specific location and time.

Speaking with mid-day, Senior Police Inspector Supriya Raosaheb Patil of Kherwadi police station said, “We have registered an FIR against the drone operator for allegedly using a drone without police permission near the BKC Ten tower. During the investigation, we found that the drone was being used for advertisement purposes. Further investigation into the matter has been initiated.”
