The government on Sunday said IndiGo has so far processed refunds worth Rs 610 crore for passengers affected by the large-scale flight cancellations and delays over the past few days, even as the airline’s operations continue to stabilise. It also said that 3,000 pieces of baggage separated from passengers due to disruptions have been traced and delivered across the country, news agency PTI reported.
In a statement, the civil aviation ministry said it has taken “rapid and decisive steps” to minimise inconvenience to travellers and restore normalcy in the aviation network.
“IndiGo has so far processed refunds totalling Rs 610 crore. No additional fees are permitted for rescheduling travel impacted by cancellations. Dedicated support cells have been created to proactively assist passengers so that refund and rebooking issues are resolved without delay or inconvenience,” the ministry said.
The government reiterated that all corrective measures will remain in place until operations stabilise fully. The airline has also been directed to ensure that all baggage separated from travellers is traced and delivered within 48 hours, PTI reported.
According to the ministry, air travel operations across the country are “stabilising at a fast pace”, with all other domestic airlines operating normally and at full capacity. IndiGo’s performance, it said, has shown a steady improvement, with flight operations rising from 706 on Friday to 1,565 on Saturday.
The carrier is operating 1,650 flights of its 2,300 daily domestic and international services on Sunday, while 650 flights remain cancelled, PTI reported. IndiGo said it expects its network to stabilise by December 10, advancing its earlier estimate of December 10–15.
“Following the recent operational disruptions, IndiGo confirms that we are establishing further significant and sustained improvements across our network. On Sunday, we are on track to operate over 1,650 flights, up from around 1,500 flights on Friday,” an IndiGo Spokesperson said.
The airline’s on-time performance from six metro airports improved to 20.7 per cent on Saturday, as per the Civil Aviation Ministry’s website. IndiGo had operated around 1,500 flights on Saturday after nearly 800 cancellations on Friday.
The disruptions over the past five days had led to hundreds of cancellations and severe delays nationwide, causing extensive inconvenience to thousands of passengers. With government pressure and monitoring intensifying, IndiGo is now pushing to restore its full schedule at the earliest.
