Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Monday chaired a high-level meeting and asked the officials to urgently resolve worsening traffic situation in Thane and its nearby areas, reported the PTI.
Shinde urged all departments to work in coordination for quick and effective solutions in the district.
Eknath Shinde acknowledged the severe inconvenience faced by citizens due to recurring traffic jams and said it was essential for municipal officials, traffic police, and the Public Works Department to collaborate within strict timelines to resolve the issues.
"Citizens in Thane and its surrounding areas are severely troubled by persistent traffic congestion. All concerned departments must work in coordination to make the area free from traffic bottlenecks, and the roads should be repaired urgently using the best available technology to make them pothole-free," Shinde instructed.
He specifically mentioned major congestion during peak hours on key routes such as Kopri, Majiwada, Ghodbunder Road, the Gaimukh Ghat–Fountain Hotel stretch, and Shilphata.
The Deputy CM expressed concern over the ongoing disruption caused by the poor condition of the road at Gaimukh Ghat, stating that the lack of resolution was "unacceptable."
He directed authorities to develop a comprehensive traffic management plan for Thane, Bhiwandi, Shilphata, and Kopri. The plan should include improved traffic regulation, smart signal systems, and alternate routing to ease congestion.
“Citizens deserve safe and smooth roads,” Eknath Shinde said.
The poor condition of the road at Gaimukh Ghat continues to cause traffic jams, and no effective solution has yet been implemented. Deputy CM Shinde expressed dissatisfaction over this ongoing issue.
He further instructed that a proper traffic management plan should be developed to address congestion in Thane, Bhiwandi, Shilphata, and Kopri.
He stated that road repairs must be of high quality, without creating uneven patches that can lead to accidents. Achieving pothole-free roads will significantly ease traffic flow, and hence the best available technology should be used to achieve this, Shinde added.
“Every official involved must be held accountable,” he further said.
The meeting was attended by Thane Collector Shrikrishnath Panchal, TMC Commissioner Saurabh Rao, and Police Commissioner Ashutosh Dumbare, among other senior officials.
