Two people were injured after a dried tree fell near Nikhil Auto Garage, close to Hyde Park in Tulshidham area of Thane (West) in Maharashtra amid heavy rains on Tuesday evening, officials said.
The incident occurred around 9:05 pm, according to information shared by the Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC).
The civic officials said that a local resident reported the incident to authorities. Soon after, staff from the Thane Municipal Corporation’s Tree Authority, Disaster Management Cell, and Fire Brigade rushed to the spot with emergency vehicles.
"Two people sustained injuries in the incident. They were identified as Harshad Suresh Lad (33), a resident of Vasant Vihar, he suffered a serious injury to his left le and Nagesh Dadarav Survanshi (36), from Konkani Pada, Upvan, sustained minor blunt injuries," said an official.
Both were rushed to Aarogya Hospital in Thane's Majiwada for urgent medical treatment, he said, adding that the officials later successfully cut and cleared the fallen tree to restore safety in the area.
Parts of Maharashtra including Thane district and adjoining Mumbai on Tuesday continued to witness heavy rains.
In an another incident, the officials said that the ceiling plaster of a house in a four-storey building collapsed early on Tuesday in Maharashtra's Thane city.
No person was injured in the incident which was reported at 3.20 am in the house located on the first floor of the nearly 30-year-old Hina Lakshmi Society in Naupada area, Thane Municipal Corporation's disaster management cell chief Yasin Tadvi said.
A portion of the ceiling plaster in a bedroom of the house collapsed, he said.
Two men and a woman who resided in the flat were in the hall at the time of the incident and were not injured, the official said.
The disaster management personnel and civic staff rushed to the site after being alerted, he said.
Given the structural risk, the bedroom has been sealed for safety, the official said.
The building is around 30 years' old, comprising 24 flats with nearly 70 to 80 residents. The last repair works were carried out eight-nine years back, the officials said.
