A woman lost her arm after she slipped and fell while attempting to board an express train at Thane railway station in the early hours of Monday, police said, reported the PTI.
The incident took place at around 1 am when 28-year-old Seema Shabbir Sheikh, a resident of Kalwa in Thane district of Maharashtra, was trying to get on the Mahanagari Express after it arrived at platform number 7.
According to a Government Railway Police (GRP) official, Sheikh slipped and fell beneath coaches S-5 and S-6 of the train.
An announcement was immediately made at the station, following which police personnel and porters rushed to the scene. She was pulled out from under the train.
Police said her right arm had been severed from the shoulder in the accident. She also suffered a serious injury to her right leg.
Shifted to multiple hospitals
She was first taken to Chhatrapati Shivaji Hospital for emergency treatment.
Due to the severity of her injuries, she was later moved to Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital for specialised surgical care.
Subsequently, her parents shifted her to Sion Hospital for further treatment, officials said.
Probe begins
The GRP has begun an inquiry to determine the exact circumstances that led to the accident.

HSC student dies while heading to board exam
In an another incident, earlier this month, an 18-year-old student, on his way to appear for his HSC board exam, died after sustaining serious injuries near the Kalwa-Mumbra railway section, officials from the Thane Railway Police had earlier said.
The incident had occurred at around 9.15 am on February 10 near kilometre number 36/125, between Kalwa and Mumbra railway stations. The deceased has been identified as Soham Sachin Kathare, a resident of Dombivli.
According to the police, Soham was travelling to Kalwa to appear for his Class 12 board examination when the incident took place. He was found injured near the railway track and was taken to the Civil Hospital by police personnel from Kalwa.
Doctors examined him on arrival, but he was declared dead at 10.30 am, before admission for treatment.
Police later registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) in the matter and were further investigating the case.
