University departments, college principals, and staff have been instructed to inform all students and relevant personnel about the revised timetable as soon as possible.
Mumbai University conducts robotic-cleaning trial in Kalyan-Dombivli lake
The Centre of Excellence in Robotics at Mumbai University’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Kalyan, has taken a significant step towards waterbody rejuvenation by successfully conducting a robotic cleaning demonstration at the Nilje–Mauli lake.
The demonstration, carried out in collaboration with Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) and technology firm Janyu Tech, showcased the use of advanced robotic solutions for lake desilting and waste removal. During the trial, Janyu Tech’s heavy-duty sludge cleaning robot, ‘Matsya’, was deployed to remove accumulated silt and floating waste from the lake with minimal environmental disturbance.
Engineers from KDMC, representatives of Mumbai University, and a specialised robotic operations team were present during the demonstration, which was completed successfully. Following the trial, the KDMC administration expressed satisfaction with the robot’s performance and indicated that an official rate card for desilting and mid-lake stacking operations would be issued.
Robotic desilting trial in Kalyan-Dombivli
Developed by Janyu Tech, ‘Matsya’ is a floating, heavy-duty sludge cleaning robot designed to operate in lakes, rivers, canals and large reservoirs. It is capable of efficiently removing bottom silt and floating debris while ensuring minimal ecological impact. The deployment of such robotic systems reduces dependence on manual labour, enhances operational safety and leads to cost efficiencies. Its adaptable design makes it particularly suitable for lake rejuvenation, water quality improvement and sustainable water resource management.
The initiative is being led under the guidance of Mumbai University Vice-Chancellor Prof Ravindra Kulkarni, Janyu Tech co-founder and managing director Abhimanyu Raja, and KDMC Commissioner Abhinav Goyal. It is being cited as a strong example of collaboration between academia, industry and local self-government bodies, highlighting its importance in achieving sustainable development goals through innovation and technology.
