The 11th steel bridge for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project has been successfully launched over the Cadilla flyover in Ahmedabad district in Gujarat, officials said on Monday.

The bridge, which spans 70 metres in length, forms a crucial part of the high-speed rail corridor.

Weighing 670 metric tons, the bridge stands 13 metres tall and 14.1 metres wide. It was fabricated at a workshop in Navsari in Gujarat, and transported to the site using heavy-duty trailers, an official statement said.

The assembly of the bridge took place adjacent to the Cadilla flyover and the Indian Railways tracks, using specially designed steel staging positioned 16.5 metres above ground level. The bridge is constructed with approximately 29,300 Tor-Shear Type High Strength (TTHS) bolts and coated with a C5 system painting to enhance durability and longevity, it said.

A total of 28 steel bridges are planned for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor, of which 17 will be in Gujarat and 11 in Maharashtra.

The launch of this bridge marks another major milestone in the construction of India’s first high-speed rail project.
