The Bandra police have arrested a 35-year-old man based on a complaint filed by a woman who accused him of molesting and looting her. According to a complaint filed by the 25-year-old woman — a bar singer from Mira Road — the accused molested her, snatched her phone, and escaped with her car at Bandstand when she had gone to meet him.
The alleged incident took place on Wednesday (August 13) night. According to police, the accused, a resident of Govandi, was arrested from his house on Saturday night. Police said that the victim had recently become acquainted with the accused. On the night of the incident, the two met at Bandstand after she picked him up from Bandra railway station. While they were sitting in the car, the accused allegedly molested her, snatched her phone, pushed her out of the vehicle, and fled with her car.
Based on the complaint, the police launched an investigation and started searching for the accused. Police said that the accused, a former leader of a political party, did not return home for several days after the Wednesday night incident.
The police said that soon after he returned home on Saturday, the Bandra police received a tip-off, following which they traced him to his residence and, with the help of the Fire Brigade, broke open his door and arrested him. The stolen car and mobile phone were also recovered, said police.
A police officer said, “The accused began molesting her inside the car while they parked at Bandstand. When she resisted, he assaulted her. The woman shouted for help, but the accused snatched her phone, pushed her out of the car, and escaped.”
