Mumbai: BEST bus catches fire in Andheri, passengers safe

A civic-run BEST bus caught fire in suburban Andheri in Mumbai on Saturday afternoon but all its passengers were safe, an official said.


The bus caught fire at Chakala junction on the Western Express Highway in Andheri East around 3.15 pm.



After receiving a call from the police, fire brigade vehicles rushed to the spot and doused the fire within 15 minutes, the civic official said.


Passengers safely got down from the bus as soon as the fire was noticed.

"No passengers sustained any injury," the official said.

The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.

According to BEST officials, the bus had been taken on wet lease.

Another BEST bus had caught fire in the city in January. Nobody had been injured in the incident.

Meanwhile, in an another incident on Saturday afternoon, fire broke out at a hotel in Mulund area of Mumbai on Saturday afternoon. In the incident as many as three people were injured, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.

According to the civic body, the blaze was reported at Cowboy Barbecue hotel on Saturday. The hotel is located at Ram Ratan Triveni Marg near Central Bank in Mulund (West) area of Mumbai.  After the information was received, the official from the Mumbai Fire Brigade and the local ward staff rushed to the spot. The fire was extinguished at around 3:20pm, the BMC said. 

All the injured were rushed to the Agarwal Hospital in Mulund and were treated for the injuries. The injured were later discharged, the civic body added.
