Can Mumbai ever adopt the Dutch approach to cycling? We’ll find out soon at a unique cross-cultural meeting called NL-EU-India Mobility Conference in Bandra (April 16-17). “We’re bringing experts like Geert Kloppenburg and Chris Bruntlett (below, right), who have worked extensively on urban mobility, to decode the urban realities of our city, and build a realistic roadmap,” revealed cyclist Vijay Malhotra, who is part of the hosting contingent. Marking 20 years of Earth Hour, it urges people to switch off non-essential lights on March 28, 8.30 to 9.30 pm. Shaan shared, “Loving the Earth is one of the greatest lessons we can pass on,” while Mahadevan added, “Small actions together, can create a powerful impact.”

Amir Khan addresses the gathering

It was a Taare Zameen Par moment in the true sense earlier this week, thanks to actor Aamir Khan’s Talaash for bright ideas. The Bollywood star had quite the exhaustive guestlist of star changemakers and storytellers at a private meeting to discuss the Paani Foundation’s work across Maharashtra. After a briefing, we heard the actor was all ears to hear from invitees including Sarang Sathaye, Akash Mahale, Santhosh Jadhav aka Indian Farmer, and Siddhesh Lokare.

In conversation with Ayush Sagale, who voices farmers’ concerns through his platform Agri Wala, Khan revealed his vision: “There is a gap between people who farm, and people who have the know-how of agriculture. We must join hands to bridge the gap soon.” Kudos to the superstar for having an ear to the ground.
