The Maharashtra government has approved the long-pending proposal for a new court complex in Mulund. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday granted administrative approval of Rs 86.97 crore for the construction of a state-of-the-art 10-storey court building, replacing the existing 80-year-old structure.

According to the government resolution issued by the Law and Judiciary Department, the new complex will include two basements, a ground floor, and ten upper floors, featuring 11 court halls, a Vulnerable Witness Deposition Centre, and a Lok Adalat Court Hall.

Mulund BJP MLA Mihir Kotecha, who has been pursuing this project for several years, welcomed the move.

“This is a huge relief for citizens and government staff who have been working in unsafe and congested conditions. I thank CM Devendra Fadnavis ji for prioritising this long-pending demand. The new complex, planned on government plots 676 and 676A in Mulund, will provide modern facilities and better accessibility for people seeking judicial and administrative services,” Kotecha said.

The decision comes after Kotecha’s consistent follow-up with the government since 2022. In December 2023, he had written to then Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, highlighting the urgent need to replace the dilapidated court building that currently houses two metropolitan courts, a revenue office, and 12 administrative departments.

“The existing structure is in a dangerous condition and lacks adequate space. Over 500 government employees work there, while more than 1,000 citizens visit the premises daily for legal and administrative matters,” Kotecha explained.

He further added that he would continue to monitor the project’s progress to ensure that construction begins without delay.

Maharashtra has made a significant contribution to country's maritime strength: Devendra Fadnavis at India Maritime Week 2025

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday highlighted the state’s crucial role in strengthening India’s maritime sector while addressing the India Maritime Week 2025 event in Mumbai.

“Maharashtra has made a significant contribution to the country’s maritime strength. As India’s economic capital, the state owes much of its success to the strategic importance of Mumbai’s ports and the pivotal role of the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA),” Fadnavis said.

He commended the Centre’s efforts under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, noting that the construction of the Vadhavan Port had begun. “Once completed, it will rank among the world’s top 10 largest ports, further enhancing India’s maritime capabilities and strengthening the global supply chain,” he added.

Outlining the state’s initiatives to promote maritime development, the Chief Minister said, “To accelerate the growth of this sector, we have introduced the Maharashtra Shipbuilding Policy 2025, aimed at boosting domestic manufacturing and infrastructure.”
