Navi Mumbai: Two arrested for murder of history-sheeter in Panvel

Navi Mumbai: Two arrested for murder of history-sheeter in Panvel

The accused were identified as Mohasin Mulani (37) and Ankit Kamble alias Sai (29).

Unit 2 of the Crime Branch of Panvel Taluka police arrested two persons for allegedly murdering a 45-year-old man and leaving the body in his car.


A constable attached to the Panvel Taluka police station received information around 6.40 pm on November 18 that a red Audi with the registration number MH-14-GA-9585 was parked on the side of the road in Taragaon, Panvel. The police rushed to the spot and found a person lying behind the driver's seat. 


The body was partially decomposed and there were five bullet holes in his chest. The person had an ID card that revealed his name as Sanjay Karle (45), resident of Talegaon Dabhade. The primary investigation found Karle was also a history-sheeter and had come out of jail a few months ago. 


Panvel Taluka cops were investigating the case while Unit 2 of the Crime Branch was also carrying out a parallel investigation. Senior Inspector Ravindra Patil, API Pravin Phadtare, Sandeep Gaikwad led the team. 

"We checked CCTV footage from the Mumbai-Pune expressway till Panvel to find the movement of Karle's vehicle. While scanning CCTV footage we found two suspects with the deceased," said an official from Unit 2. "The suspect had switched off their cell phones and were on the run," he added. 

The accused were on the run and went to Karnataka, Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and crossed to Nepal. Cops were keeping a close look at their movements and knew they would contact someone for money. On January 2, cops got information that the duo will come to Dehu road, Pune. A trap was laid and both the suspects were arrested. Cops recovered a country-made pistol and 3 live rounds from their possession.

The accused were identified as Mohasin Mulani (37) and Ankit Kamble alias Sai (29) both resident of Panvel. Mohsin is a history-sheeter with having offences such as extortion, rape, kidnapping and possession of arms. And was running a bar.

An offence was registered against the accused under the IPC section 302 (murder), 34 (common intention) and relevant sections of the Arms Act. The accused have been handed over to Panvel Taluka police station for further action.

The reason

The deceased Sanjay Karle had met accused Mohsin in Yerwada jail. Karle was jailed for cheating people for money on the pretext of giving them gold. After getting released from jail, Karle assured Mohsin to give him gold at a cheaper rate, Mohsin suspected him but Karle assured him he will not dupe him as they are friends. Mohsin had handed over R7 Lakh to Karle but he got duped.

Day of incident

Mohsin was consistently asking for money from Karle. Karle told, them he need Rs 2 lakh more so that he will hand over gold worth R9 Lakh. Desperate Mohsin asked his friend Ankit to bring R1 lakh and arranged Rs1 lakh on his own. On November 18 when the trio met, Karle showed a gun at Ankit and demanded money from him but in the scuffle, the gun fell and Mohsin shot Karle 5 times. Then they abandoned the vehicle near Panvel and ran away.
