Mumbai Police on Tuesday issued a traffic advisory for motorists, announcing the restricting heavy vehicles on Western Express Highway for the ongoing Maritime Week 2025 in Goregaon area of the city.

PM Modi will be at the Maritime Week 2025 on Wednesday, October 29.

The police, in its traffic notification, said that there will be temporary traffic restrictions on the Western Express Highway (WEH) on October 29, 2025 in view of the VVIP visit during the ongoing India Maritime Week exhibition at NESCO Exhibition Centre.

It said that the movement of Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) will be completely prohibited on the Western Express Highway from Vakola Flyover to Dahisar Toll Naka, both southbound and northbound, between 2 pm and 9 pm.

The restrictions are aimed at ensuring the safety of VVIPs and other protected persons while also preventing traffic congestion on the busy highway, officials said.

The police said that there will be exemptions for emergency service vehicles such as ambulances, fire brigade, and police vehicles, government vehicles deployed for VVIP security arrangements and other vehicles permitted by traffic police on duty based on situational requirements.

"All drivers, transporters, and road users have been directed to follow the instructions of traffic police personnel deployed along the route. Violating the order will attract penal action," said an official notification, adding that motorists are advised to plan alternative routes in advance and allow for extra travel time to avoid delays during the restricted hours.

Prime Minister Modi will address a maritime leaders conclave as India seeks to position itself as a maritime power, an official statement said.

PM Modi will also chair the Global Maritime CEO Forum, a highlight event of India Maritime Week (IMW) 2025, being held at the NESCO Exhibition Centre.

The week-long event is positioned as India’s premier global platform to showcase the country’s evolving maritime vision and strategic ambitions.

This year’s edition will see participation from over 85 countries, with more than 1,00,000 delegates, 500 exhibitors, and 350 international speakers.

The Global Maritime CEO Forum, which the Prime Minister will chair, brings together some of the world’s leading figures from the maritime sector — including CEOs of top global shipping and port companies, major investors, policymakers, innovators, and international development partners. The forum aims to foster high-level dialogue on the future of the global maritime ecosystem, focusing on sustainable growth, resilient supply chains, green shipping, and inclusive blue economy strategies.

India Maritime Week 2025, themed “Uniting Oceans, One Maritime Vision,” is being organised from October 27 to 31, 2025.
