Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis congratulated Team India for winning the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, describing the achievement as historic and a memorable gift for cricket fans across the country, reported the PTI.

In a statement issued after the final, CM Fadnavis said that the team’s remarkable achievement would be remembered in the cricketing world for many years.

Led by captain Suryakumar Yadav, the Indian side secured an unprecedented third T20 World Cup title with a commanding 96-run victory over the New Zealand national cricket team. The final was played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Fadnavis praised the Indian players for their spirited performance throughout the match, noting that the team displayed confidence and determination from the very start.

He highlighted the strong batting display led by Sanju Samson and other top-order players, who helped India post a formidable total. The chief minister also commended bowlers Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah for their effective spells that restricted the opposition.

CM Fadnavis appreciated the fielding efforts of Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma, saying the team demonstrated the spirit, discipline and sportsmanship that define cricket as a true team game, according to the PTI.

Fadnavis said the historic triumph was the result of the combined efforts of the players, coaches, mentors and the entire support staff.

State assembly congratulates Team India

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on Monday congratulated Indian cricket team for ICC Men's T20 World Cup victory after defeating New Zealand cricket team in the final.

CM Fadnavis moved a motion in the House praising the team’s performance and highlighting the discipline and confidence displayed by the players throughout the tournament.

Speaking in the state assembly, CM Fadnavis said that the Indian team showed remarkable teamwork and composure during the competition.

He particularly praised cricketer Sanju Samson, who joined the squad at the last moment but went on to deliver an impressive performance during the tournament.

“The Indian team displayed strong teamwork, discipline and confidence. I congratulate the entire team for this outstanding achievement,” he said, reported the PTI.

Rahul Narwekar, Speaker of the Maharashtra Assembly, said a congratulatory message from the House would be sent to the Team India.

Historic achievement for India

With the victory, India became the first team to win the T20 World Cup three times and also the first to successfully defend the title.

Powered by strong batting performances from Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Sanju Samson, all of whom scored half-centuries, India posted an imposing total of 255 runs. The Kiwi middle order failed to fire as 4 of the top 5 batters registered single-digit scores. New Zealand skipper Mitchell Santner put up a fight as he scored 43 runs off 35 balls. The team struggled in response and were bowled out for 159. With the win, the Indian team became the first team ever to successfully defend their T20 crown.
