After delaying action for more than two months, the Thane police have finally cracked the whip on rogue Assistant Police Inspector Krupali Borse. She has now been shunted out of Mumbra police station and posted at the Police Control Room (PCR), Kalyan, till further orders. The action followed her failure to provide satisfactory answers after she was found in the company of a mobile-snatcher in a Powai hotel in August.

“A departmental inquiry of the officer is ongoing and till it ends, she has been attached to the control room until next orders,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (Administration) Sanjay Jadhav.

mid-day had reported on the incident in which Kherwadi cops had found the API with wanted mobile snatcher Sabir Sher Ali Sayyed at a Powai hotel on August 8. Soon after the incident, the cops asked API Borse and two other women accompanying her to come to the police station and record their statements, but they didn’t show up.

Meanwhile, a Mumbra-based social activist made a written application to the Thane police commissioner, demanding a probe into the incident. Following the demand, the Thane top cop set up an inquiry under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police Dr Mahesh Patil towards the end of August.

After receiving the inquiry report, the Thane commissioner issued show cause notice to API Borse, but no satisfactory answers were received by the Thane police, which led to further action against her. During the action, API Borse resumed her duty at Mumbra police station, not as a detection officer but on general duty.

On October 2, members of the Sukun foundation began an indefinite strike at Azad Maidan, demanding action against API Borse. Finally, the orders were issued by ACP Sanjay Jadhav to move her to the PCR, Kalyan, till further orders. The senior inspector of Mumbra police has been instructed to relieve the API of her duties as soon as possible and submit the compliance report at the earliest.

“We are happy that the Thane police commissioner took this decision. This will set an example in the Thane police that you (officers) have to be disciplined. Mumbra residents welcome this decision,” local resident Anisha Sheikh said.
