As many as 240 Mumbai local trains will remain cancelled over the weekend due to the ongoing Western Railway sixth line work, an official statement said on Wednesday.

The Western Railway, while sharing Mumbai local trains updates, announced a major block in connection with the construction of the sixth railway line between Kandivali and Borivali.


The block began on the night of December 20/21, 2025, and will continue until January 18, 2026, an official statement said.



According to a press release issued by Western Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Vineet Abhishek, additional major night blocks will be undertaken on January 16/17 and January 17/18, 2026.

During this period, the UP fast line between Borivali and Malad will remain blocked from 11:15 pm to 3:15 am, while the DOWN fast line will be blocked from 1:00 am to 4:30 am.

Suburban train services to be affected

Due to the block, suspension of the fifth line, and speed restrictions, several suburban train services will be cancelled. Western Railway has stated that a detailed list of affected trains is available with station masters, officials said.

Over 200 trains cancelled over two days

On January 17, a total of 120 suburban services will be cancelled, including 60 UP and 60 DOWN trains. The same number of cancellations is planned for January 18, taking the total to 240 suburban services over the two days.

Advice for passengers

Passengers have been advised to check train details in advance and plan their journeys accordingly to avoid inconvenience.

Mumbai Police issue traffic curbs on Wadala Link Road for Metro Line-4 work

Meanwhile, Mumbai Police on Wednesday issued traffic restrictions on the Wadala Link Road for the ongoing Mumbai Metro Line-4 works.

In a traffic notification, the police stated that due to the works, temporary traffic restrictions would remain in place on the Wadala Link Road under the Antop Hill Traffic Division area.

According to notification, the erection of Pier Cap P-78 will be carried out near the Anik BEST Depot and in front of Rustomjee Aspire on Wadala Link Road. The work will involve the use of cranes, multi-axle trailers and other heavy machinery.

Due to limited road width in the area, temporary traffic management measures are required to ensure public safety.

The traffic restrictions will be in force from 11.00 pm on January 24, 2026, to 6.00 am on January 25, 2026, the police said.

Roads to remain closed

During the restriction period, the following routes will remain closed to traffic -

- Ahuja Bridge (southbound) in front of Padmashree Vasantdada Patil College

- Northbound traffic from Lodha Signal towards Ahuja Bridge

- North-south traffic from Anik BEST Depot towards Panchsheel Nagar Signal

Alternate routes for motorists

The traffic notification stated that motorists are advised to use the following alternate routes -

- For southbound traffic on Ahuja Bridge, vehicles should use the Sion-Panvel Highway, proceeding from Sion Circle to Swarna Kaur Bindra Chowk and then to Lodha Signal.

- For northbound traffic from Lodha Signal to Ahuja Bridge, vehicles should take a left turn from Lodha Signal towards RTO Chowk and proceed towards Sion Circle.

- Vehicles travelling northbound from Anik BEST Depot towards Panchsheel Nagar Signal should take a U-turn near the Mahanagar Gas pump and proceed southbound.
