Sources believe strain between BJP and JD(U)may result in a split in coalition
Things are not looking good for the BJP-JD(U) alliance at the time. The rift between Nitish Kumar and the BJP party officials is growing wider by the minute.
At a time of the upcoming elections in Bihar, both the BJP and the JD(U) are in a tug-of-war situation with different ideologies, which may result in a split in the four-year-long coalition government.
Saffron appeal
The right wing saffron brigade VHP and Bajrang Dal stated that BJP should not compromise on their ideologies and break the coalition with Nitish Kumar. Praveen Togadia, general secretary, VHP, said, "All I have to say is that in this country we keep talking about minorities, but no one talks about the 80 per cent Hindus."
However, JD(U) members felt it was unfortunate that a successful tenure had to come to an end in such a tragic manner. Shivanand Tiwari, spokesperson of JD(U), said, "It is very ill-fated that after four long years, a successful coalition like ours has to come to an end. I think we can survive this, but if the BJP is rigid then we have no option left."
Others say
The entire controversy, which began with an advertisement in a Patna daily, has caught the attention of other parties too. Nilotpal Basu CPI(M) leader said, "Nitish Kumar is posing like a secular force but his positioning will not be believed till he breaks his association with the BJP."
Manish Tiwari, Congress spokesperson, said, "All the allies are finding the association with BJP very embarrassing. The allies have realised that the communal construct of NDA is self-destructive and have understood where the center of gravity lies but at the same time I also want to maintain that Nitish Kumar should not be allowed to come off the hook after four years suddenly discovering the ally as communal."
