With Delhi University colleges having created history by keeping a first cut off 100 per cent this year, the students face severe competition to get admission in colleges of their choice. After three people were held for selling fake certificates, DU vice- chancelloru00a0 Dinesh Singh has been flooded with phone calls from people asking him questions regarding the issue. In an interview to MiD DAY, Singh says that the issue has nothing to do with the reserved category students and the varsity will continue to consider them.

With the new admission process in place, were you equipped to handle this kind of a situation? Do you have any remedial measure planned for now?
What remedial actions can we plan for such incidences! There is no standard format for the reserved category students. We just need to be alert while dealing with those applying under the reserved category. We can just send the certificates for rechecking but it is really difficult to distinguish between the original and the fake ones.

After this incident, do you think that the quota system should exist?
Of course yes. We don't have any problem with the reserved category students. Many will try to take advantage of the system but we just need to be cautious during the admission process. The varsity has always been sensitive towards them and we will continue to be the same.
Do you think as fallout of this incidence, the reserved category students will face problems as now people might startu00a0 picking up bad vibes on them?
This incident has nothing to do with the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribes or Other Backward Classes students. We need to put every thing in a central standard format. If anyone picks up bad vibes on these students, it's their problem. I do not support that.
Do you think that there should be more universities to prevent students from taking such steps to get into colleges?
I have been always in favour of more universities. I think the government is working for it and maybe within the next few years, there will be more central universities to accommodate the rising number of students.
As you are not in Delhi, what are you planning to do once you are back in the city?
It is very unfortunate that such a thing has happened. I will speak to all the college principals about preparing a standard format of admission for the reserved category students so that we can identify fake certificates if we come across any during the admission procedure.
