Among the various objects found missing from the east Delhi house of Pushpa Sen, found murdered on Thursday evening, was a kitchen knife.

Police believe that the same knife killed the 81-year-old widow, who used to live alone at her Vivek Vihar house. Pushpa has two sons who live abroad. Her tenant at around 5:30pm found her body lying in the washroom.

The tenant, who has been detained for questioning, could not be identified. Her neighbours last saw Pushpa at around 11am.

The police found the front door of the house ajar and articles strewn around. The police said prima facie it seemed like a robbery but the case is being investigated from all possible angles.

A senior police official said there were several cuts on the body, which has been sent for autopsy, and among articles missing from the house was a knife from its stand in the kitchen. "The assailants might have used the same to kill the senior citizen," he said.

Pushpa is the sister of retired Supreme Court judge DP Wadhwa and resides near the famous Ram Mandir of Vivek Vihar.

Panic gripped the entire area as soon as the news of her murder spread.
The police have registered a case under section 302 of the IPC and have informed Pushpa's sons.
