Three constables and an inspector were allegedly suspended for attempting to book a powerful moneylender for kidnapping

Constables Thimme Gowda, Ramzan Saab Thahasildar, and Thippeswamy learnt the hard way that the story rarely ends well for the good cops.

The three cops are under suspension for their role in the arrest of P Bhaskar, a moneylender who allegedly kidnapped a man who could not settle his debts.

Inspector N Srinidhi of the Tilak Nagar police station had responded to the complaints of the man's wife and had wanted to arrest Bhaskar for kidnapping a non-bailable offence.

A sub-inspector at the police station allegedly booked Bhaskar under sections that weakened the case against him.

When N Srinidhi called Bhaskar to the police station, ACP Nagaraj allegedly intervened and got him off the hook.u00a0 Srinidhi was also reprimanded.

While the station staff was shellshocked at the ACP's gesture, Bhaskar's family members including his son, brother, and wife allegedly ransacked the station.

Constables Thimme Gowda, Ramzan Saab Thahasildar, and Thippeswamy were injured in the attack. Though the family members were booked for vandalism, top cops allowed Bhaskar to go free.

"Bhaskar should have been rowdy-sheeted because he has at least 14 cases against him apart from the latest one," explained one of the three constables.

"But, we were punished while he is safe under the protection of our senior officers."

"My wife is hospitalised and I am jobless," said one of the constables. "I am being punished for discharging my duties. I am shocked that our seniors are supporting the culprit instead of protecting our interests."

When Srinidhi protested Nagraj's role in the matter, the ACP recommended that he be suspended for demanding bribes from Bhaskar. The recommendations were promptly accepted by Police Commissioner Shankar Bidri.

An unfazed Srinidhi moved the Karnataka Administrative Tribunal (KAT), which quashed the suspension. Srnidhi, however, could not get his post back. He was transferred to the City Crime Branch (CCB), on April 10.

Interestingly, the day on which Srinidhi was transferred, constables Gowda, Thahasildar, and Thippeswamy were suspended for allegedly supporting Srinidhi in harassing Bhaskar.

Srinidhi refused to comment in the matter.

"I am a disciplined cop. I don't want to comment on this issue. I am posted at the CCB. I am working honestly here." Bhaskar, said that everyone in his neighbourhood knew that he was a good person.

"Some people ransacked the station when I was arrested for no apparent reason. The cops were punished for some foolishness of theirs. I have nothing to do with it."

ACP Nagaraj refused to comment on the issue. Commissioner Shankar Bidri didn't respond to this reporter's repeated calls.
