| The concerned officials have not taken proper measures to ensure safety of workers at the ongoing Metro rail site on M G Road. |
The labourer, Uttam Kundra from West Bengal, a cable technician who was working at the Metro site near the Sri Hotel in Ulsoor, was buried alive under hundreds of cement bags, which fell accidentally on him when he slipped and tried to hold them.
The incident occurred at around 2 pm, when he was on his way to have lunch with his brother Gautam Kundra. Gautam was the only witness of this incident. Gautam could not save Uttam as no one was there to help him.

"When other workers returned to the site after 45 minutes we pulled out Uttam, who was still alive, but seriously injured," Gautam told MiD DAY. They rushed Uttam to Manipal Hospital where he died on Sunday.

We are waiting to hear from Metro officials. We will take appropriate action once the report is submitted to us," said M K Tammaiah, inspector of Ulsoor police station.
'We'll compensate'
This is not the first incident at the Metro site, but the concerned officials have not taken it seriously about the safety of the workers.
Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) PRO Vashavanth Chavan said, "We conduct a safety drill every morning. Uttam was in a place where he was not supposed to be, that too alone.
I am not aware of the notice. If that is the case, we will reply with all the details. Also, Uttam's family members will be compensated, as per law."
