According to the police, Chikka Shaynegowda, who is close to the notorious rowdy Silent Sunil, had invited his associates for his sister's marriage reception held at a hotel in Malleshwaram.

Meanwhile, there was a rift among Sunil's associates over the sharing of extortion money. Shyanegowda had invited both groups, hoping that one group would not come if they know the other group was attending.
Luck ran out when both groups confronted each other at the venue. Soon after dinner, they attacked each other with sharp weapons.

While the guests ran helter-skelter, the gang led by Prashanth and Prabhakar hacked Natraj alias Lambu Natraj (24), Somashkhar (23), and Balasubramani (23) to death.

In retaliation, Natraj's associates attacked Prashanth and Prabhakar. The two were injured, but managed to escape from the back door of the hotel.

Senior police officials swung into action and arrested, Pashanth (27), Prabhakar (30), Umashankar (26), Chikka Shyanegowda (29), Sunil (21) and Kiran (22). They were nabbed while they were getting treatment from a nearby hospital.

The police are on the lookout for other accused who are absconding. Joint Commissioner of police Alok Kumar aid that the Natraj who was hacked to death, had eight criminal cases pending against him in various police stations including attempt to murder, robbery, assault and arms act.
