The Khar police finally made a breakthrough in the case of kidnapping of a seven-year-old girl who was abducted by her mother from outside the tot's school on July 19. The girl has been traced to Uttar Pradesh and a police team will be bringing the child and her mother back to the city shortly.
Initially the Khar police were not filing a complaint, and it was only after this newspaper reported on the matter that a kidnap case was registered.u00a0Deputy Commissioner of Police Pratap Dighavkar said, “The girl has been traced and the accused was arrested. They will be brought to Mumbai in two days.”u00a0
The girl’s mother gave the police a difficult time and managed to stay off the radar for a while. A police team nabbed her and an accomplice in Jaunpur, UP, after a brief chase chase and found the child.

The girl’s father Naushad Sheikh said, “I am happy, and I thank MiD DAY and the police for helping me locate my daughter.”
An inquiry has been initiated to look into why the Khar police did not register the case, and the report is awaited.u00a0
