An unidentified assailant allegedly fired upon a 32-year-old man working with a city-based developer yesterday morning near Rajaram Bridge. Vinayak Jade was shot in the abdomen and rushed to a nearby hospital where he undergoing treatment. He is said to be out of danger.

According to information given to the Kothrud police station, Jade works as an accountant with Sagar Developers located at Dahanukar colony in Kothrud, which is owned by one Pesharam Chaudhary.


“Jade, a resident of Sinhgad Road, was riding his bike to office and was intercepted by an unidentified person on a bike near Rajaram Bridge and informed to phone his employer. Jade took out his cell phone, dialled the number and handed it to the assailant. The assailant suddenly shot at him with a pistol and fled,” said Senior Police Inspector Kalyan Vidhate of the Kothrud police station.



Vendor to the rescue
Vidhate added that Jade collapsed on the road after being shot in the abdomen and a woman, who runs a vegetable stall nearby, rushed to his aid. He was rushed to a private hospital with the help of others who had gathered.

Vidhate said that neither Chaudhary nor Jade had received any threat calls recently and did not have any enmity with anyone. “We have formed teams to nab the assailant and the crime branch will be assisting in solving the case,” Vidhate said.

He added that the motive may be related to a land dispute and Jade will be questioned once his condition improves.u00a0
