The seat in the ward fell vacant following the brutal broad-daylight murder of the corporator R Natraj earlier this month.

As per the protocol, BBMP has to fill the vacant post within six months. Every party is preparing their respective candidates for the plum post, but JDS went ahead and found their prized catch to match the stature of Congress, which has won from the constituency and ward.

Easy recognition
The JDS has unanimously chosen the actor-cum-comedian for this role."The party had decided last week itself to go with Prakash because he does not require publicity and also because of his association with actor Duniya Vijay, who is popular is Gandhi Nagar area.

Prakash is well aware of the ward and people since he spends most of his time here running around for his film promotions," said Thimegowda, corporator and JDS leader, Girinagar ward.
