According to accounts officer, deputy directorate office, Snehal Patil, Vikhe Patil School and Vibgyor High School have increased their fees.

"The moment we got to know about it, we sent notices to the schools. We have received complaints from parents that the schools have hiked their fees," said Patil.

An official from Vikhe Patil School, requesting anonymity, said that a number of parents had called a meeting after hearing about the fee hike on Wednesday. "They have refused to pay any extra money," he said.

"We had intimated the parents about the possibility of a fee hike sometime in December and later in March," said Asif, an administrative official from the school. "Some parents approached us on Wednesday and gave us in writing about the hike. As our principal is out of town, we will be able to take a decision only after she returns."

Asif refused to divulge further details whether the authorities have received notices from the directorate's office. The deputy director of education Sunil Magar had issued a warning to all private schools in the city early this year that they are not allowed to hike school fees at their own will. Magar had quoted in the media that strict action would be taken against those who do not adhere to the notices. "As per the norms, we have sent a notice to the schools. But once the court decision is taken and the government also takes a stand, we will intimate the schools accordingly," he said.
