An eco trust is offering two acres to any Jackson fan or association wishing to set up a memorial it could be a statue, music school or even an auditorium for concerts

There's to be a Michael Jackson memorial in Bangalore with an eco trust offering land free of cost.

Muktidhama, a trust running a save-green campaign, is offering a two-acre plot near Bidadi to any MJ fan or association keen to start a memorial.

The trust has been running Smaranaranya (memorial forest) near Kumabalagodu on Mysore Road since 2000. It is based on the principle that greenery survives even after death Usiru Nintharu Hasiru.

The forest already houses memorials of famous personalities like director G V Iyer, theatre personality B V Karanth, litterateur A N Murthy Rao, former chief minister Ramakrishna Hegde, actress Soundharya, singer and music composer Raju Ananthswamy and slain NSG commando Sandeep Unnikrishnan.

It's MJ's bestselling single, Earth Song that addresses issues ranging from wars to endangered animals, which prompted the trust to come forward with the offer.

"He is loved worldwide and his Earth Song is an all-time favourite with a powerful message," said B N Shivshankar, founder, Muktidhama. "Having his memorial will be an honour," he said.

Mukthidhama hasn't decided on the form of the memorial and is open to proposals from MJ fans.

The memorial can either be an MJ statue or a music school or an auditorium for music concerts. We are open to ideas and ready to give land for it."

The trust is also open to the idea of a Charlie Chaplin memorial as it believes that art and artistes go beyond caste, creed, country and religion.

"We are ready to give land for a Chaplin memorial but religion came in the way of installing his statue recently," said B Mohan Kumari, managing trustee, Muktidhama. "Such a divide based on religion only demeans us."u00a0
