Are you ready to Zouk?

Indigenous to the Caribbean islands, Zouk is a dance format hat literally translates to 'party' in the local dialect. Salsa India is organising a series of dance workshops that teaches you to shake your stuff with cultural diversity

Kaytee Namgya talks, walks and lives salsa. The Italy-based dancer is the founder of Salsa India Productions that stepped onto the dance floor in 2001.u00a0 Namgya will be in town for his annual dance workshop that has dance enthusiasts waiting to get their Salsa on.

"Kaytee calls it the 'K-Style' where he incorporates salsa into other dance forms and keeps the focus on musicality and dancing through one's soul," says Mary Lobo, operation manager at Salsa India.

The workshop, called Monsoon Monarch, beckons you to dance away your rainy blues at their Khar studio. The instructors include Mercy St Just from Brisbane, Australia who specialises in Burlesque and Latin dance style Zouk-Lambada.

Unlike Salsa, where the dancer leads his partner by the hand, in Zouk, the man leads the woman through body movements, and follows a slow, sensual style.

"We have incorporated multiple dance forms and cultures that compliment Salsa and its passion. The workshop will include Hip Hop Salsa, K-Style Bachata, Freestyle Hip Hop, Locking, Popping, Bboying and more, but the classes will start from the basics so beginners need not worry," adds Lobo.

Don't be shy to bring your two left feet to the workshop, which offers a basic salsa eight-hour session that will set you back by Rs 2,300. Fees at the workshop are designed in a way to give you the option of choosing a short-form dance session with the Monsoon Lite 11-hour session at Rs 3,000 or a 22-hour Monsoon Pack at Rs 4,000.

You can also attend the salsa parties themed around the colours of the rainbow, every Sunday at Zenzi, Bandra and Wednesday at Shiro's, Lower Parel starting from August 7 till the end of the month.

Namgya's dance schools currently functions in New Delhi, Pune and Kolkata, in addition to their centre in Mumbai.
