The body of Ajay Pandurang Patil, a 22-year-old Gunner from the 204 Artillery Field Regiment of the Army’s Southern Command in Ghorpadi, was found hanging in his room at around 7am yesterday

The body of Ajay Pandurang Patil, a 22-year-old Gunner from the 204 Artillery Field Regiment of the Army’s Southern Command in Ghorpadi, was found hanging in his room at around 7am yesterday.

Following the incident, the army has ordered a court of inquiry (COI) into the incident.

Patil is a native of Nandyal village near Kolhapur. In a statement issued to the media, the Army stated: “Gunner Patil of Artillery Branch was found dead by hanging at an Artillery establishment in Pune on January 30. 

The incident was discovered in the morning.  The Army has ordered a court of inquiry. Police have also been informed. The Army is investigating the case and will provide all necessary assistance to the police.”
