A dangerous turn awaits vehicles just 50 metres from the airport. The bend at Ramwadi on the road leading to the airport is a sharp one, and has become a major cause of accidents nearly every day

On an average seven accident complaints are registered in a week, said API More of the airport police station.

Streetlights missing
Police officials claim that lack of proper street lighting on the road leads to accidents at night and accidents involving two-wheelers are most common on this stretch. "Commuters are unable to see the turn ahead. They end up crashing either into the vehicle in front of them or into the barricade," said an official manning the area.

Road work
The construction work on this road has been going on for two-and-half years and Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) officials said itu00a0 will be over in six months.

"Work has to be done in three phases and we have completed phase one. It will take us another six months to complete the work," said Vinay Deshpande, technical director, JNNURM. "As far as safety of the commuters is concerned, we have put up reflective boards. I am not sure about the lights, but they can be put up in a couple of days."

Passing the buck
The ward officers from the area refused to take any responsibility saying it was the duty of JNNURM to put up the lights.u00a0 "We can forward the complaint of the street lights. But at the end of the day, it's not our responsibility," said J P Pawar, assistant engineer,u00a0 Nagar Road ward office. "I am sure the problem will be taken care of as soon as work on one side of the road is over."
