Blast claims one more

The 34-year-old victim, the only breadwinner of the family, has left his wife and a 5-year-old son behind

A week after the ghastly Delhi High Court blast, one more victim, Mridul Bakshi, breathed his last at the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital on Thursday. Admitted with severe intestine and abdomen injuries, Mridul gave up the fight for life around 4 am. On the rain-soaked day, the bereaved family, including his wife Rajni and a five-month-old son, bid the 34-year-old goodbye.

"Mridul was blessed with a child after six years of marriage. Doctors did their level best to save him. We have requested the chief minister to give a job to his wife and increase the compensation amount," said Vinod Bakshi, brother of the deceased.

Mridul worked in the marketing department of Shiva Interprises, a distributor of tiles. With his demise, the future looks bleak for his grieving wife, who is a homemaker with an infant to look after. Rajni, his devastated wife, could hardly keep it together. All she managed to say was, "I am left all alone in the world. What will happen to my baby, who won't even know his father?"

Meanwhile, 13 victims have been discharged and 25 others continue to undergo treatment in different city hospitals. As many as 12 are admitted to the RML hospital, four are undergoing treatment at Safdarjung, five at AIIMS, two at Max and one each at Moolchand and LNJP hospitals. The explosion outside Gate No 5 at the Delhi High Court on 7 September has left 14 dead and over 70 injured, many of them critically.
