Suddenly, a white Maruti Suzuki Swift car appeared and one of the passengers dangled a biscuit to attract Bucknor. As soon as he reached out to the bait, the back door of the car opened and the dog was pulled inside. Chhote Lal was taken aback by the events but he chased after the car.
As soon as he reached near the vehicle, one of the occupants hit him and took out a knife. Chhote Lal was pushed back and the car sped away. Expressing his shock at the freak incident, Vishal Sharma - the owner of the black Labrador --u00a0 said when even the pets were not safe in Noida, how could he be sure about the safety of his children.
Sharma, resident of bungalow number A-12, Sector 23, works as a consultant with a blood bank. An avid cricket lover, he had named his pet after the former West Indies umpire who was known for his incisive decisions.
"We don't allow Chhote Lal to tie a chain around Bucknor's neck but the dog is not allowed to move beyond a periphery of 25 meters," Sharma told MiD DAY.u00a0 Asked why would somebody kidnap a pet, Sharma said that there were some gangs that are involved in illegal breeding of exotic breeds of dogs. "I contacted the veterinarian after the incident and he told me that such gangs use exotic breeds to mate illegally and sell the pups. A Labrador puppy cost around Rs 10,000-15,000," he said.u00a0
"There were five people in the car and they threatened me with a knife," Chhote Lal said.
Sharma has lodged a complaint with Noida Sector 24 police station. "The cops came 45 minutes after they were called. But you can guage the level of security from the fact that even our pets are not safe here, leave alone our children," Sharma claimed.u00a0 Noida police is still clueless about the whereabouts of the dog and they are yet to register a formal FIR in the case. "We are questioning the guards posted at the entry and exit gates of the colony. We will trace the dog soon," said senior police officer attached to Sector 24 police station.
