Punjabi singer Surjit Khan and his associate had a narrow escape when bullets hit them while they were performing in a Punjab village, police said Wednesday.

The bullets were fired by a drunken man Tuesday evening while the musical troupe was performing at a pre-marriage function in Jameetgarh Bhalla village in Nawanshahar district, 180 km from here.

While Surjit Khan was hit in the foot, Jasbir Singh Mavi sustained injuries on his legs.

"Khan was immediately shifted to a civil hospital in the nearby Balachaur town and Mavi was admitted to a private hospital. Doctors have extracted out the bullet and both of them are out of danger," Vinod Kumar, station house officer of Kathgarh, told IANS.

"Our investigation is on and we have identified the accused who was firing in the air to express his happiness," he said.
