Those arrested are a woman income tax officer, a chartered accountant and a senior tax assistant
The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested N A Sayyad, a woman income tax officer, Razak Mulani, a chartered accountant, and Madhav Srinivasan, a senior tax assistant, of the Income Tax Department last evening.
Superintendent of Police Vidya Kulkarni (CBI) said that they were arrested after a complaint lodged by A H Inamdar, an agriculture officer from the State Government. "We verified the conversation between the complainant and the accused over the demand of Rs 1 lakh," said Kulkarni.
According to Kulkarni, Srinivasan was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 25,000 on Monday in the afternoon.
It was decidedu00a0 that the remaining amount of Rs 75,000 would be paid today. Razak was a private party and he was booked for helping a public servant in the alleged act of corruption. Sayyad, Mulani and Srinivasan were arrested under section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988u00a0 and section 12B of Indian Penal Code (criminal conspiracy).
Panchanama formalities continued till late last night.
