With its fiery flavours firmly in place, Sancho's' new stint at Connaught Place seems to be promising

Tex Mex in Delhi was never this tantalising, with li'l plump chefs smiling at you eagerly from the walls, red-green lights hanging from a tree to distinguish the restaurant in an otherwise construction-struck CP, and Mexican music upping the sweet celebratory spirit. The grub is cheesy, saucy, sexy, with its many colours and surprises, and if you're wondering why they shut it down at South Ex, the answer lies in expat ease.

Flatter platter
It's the starters that set the spirit. We opted for an assorted platter of appetisers, with each one devour-some due to the detail. The crispy chimichangau00a0- four tortillas stuffed with spicy chicken and topped with lettuce, cottage cheese, sour cream and roasted tomato salsa, made our tastebuds do the dance. The fish tacos, mini corn tortilla (they source their ingredients from Mexico, they claim, blue corn and all) stuffed with beer batter and their special in-house chipotle mayo, pico de gallo, salsa and guacamole sauces, is another serving worth the savour.

The molletes - crusted torta bread topped with refried beans, mozzarella cheese and pico de gallo, come third to our taste, followed by prawn sopes, which we thought could've been a tad tender, though flavour-ful in its yellow corn - ajillio prawn - guajillio chilli combo.

Mexican chillies are known to be the sharpest and spiciest, and the place stands successful testimony. The fiery habenaro BBQ sauce is another winner, beating the mango salsa by micro-points.u00a0

In main course, we tried the BBQ chicken and BBQ pork ribs - a preparation true to its Tex Mex-ness. It was, however, the desserts that spelled h-e-a-v-e-n. The sample platter (highly, very highly recommended), comprising churros with chocolate sauce (mmmmm ufffd), coconut flan like the tongue's never felt and warm, gooey cajeta crepes that could easily leave you wanting even if you're full to the brim, are just three of the fantastic four on the plate. What steals the show, however, is ters leches or their signature three-milk cake - each layer thickened and cooked and intensified with a different technique. Two bites into it, and you so wish you hadn't gorged on the rest of the fare so fiercely.

And well, we almost missed on their endearing welcome drink - again, a foamed specialty served in a liquer glass, heavy on the beany flavour. It's light, frothy and fabulously different from any fancy cocktail the most elaborate cuisines offer. Not that the drinks lose out on their grades, though. The barrel's full, the bar bustling. The babies happy, the oldies jolly. If Mexico's all about good cheer, welcome to masti central.
